How to Make a Lemon Basket for Garnishing
- 1). Wash and dry your lemon thoroughly to remove any surface dirt or pesticides.
- 2). Cut your lemon in half with a serrated knife.
- 3). Cut curves or zigzags around the lip of each lemon half with your serrated knife for a decorative flair. Cutting the decorative shapes is easier when the interior lemon-meat is still intact; as this prevents the lemon skin from folding under the knife pressure.
- 4). Cut the bump off the bottom of each lemon half, so the garnish sits flat.
- 5). Juice each lemon over a manual juicer. Removing the heavy juice and seeds makes hollowing the lemon easier.
- 6). Insert your serrated-tip spoon between lemon meat and outer skin. Slowly pry the interior casing away from the outer skin, until the interior casing begins peeling like a grapefruit half.
- 7). Go around the inside of the lemon half, until you've separated all the interior casing from the outer lemon skin.
- 8). Lift the interior casing out of the lemon skin and discard.
- 9). Position your lemon basket garnishes on the serving plates and spoon the food inside each. Serve immediately.
