NY Cyclists: What to Do if You"re in a Bicycle Accident? Think Like a Driver
When you're on a bike in Brooklyn, it's easy enough to accidentally hit something, or someone, if you happen to be riding on a crowded street or weaving between potholes, parked cars, drivers yakking on their mobile phones, and pedestrians. And if you happen to be cycling across the Brooklyn Bridge on a gorgeous sunny weekend day, fuggedabout it! There's more traffic than half the population of Topeka!
Accidents do happen.
Here's what the NY City Police Department expect cyclists to do if they're involved in a bike accident, regardless of whose fault it might be. This pertains to an accident involving a car, other bike or some kind of property, as well as an accident when someone gets hurt.
According to the NYPD, "If you’re involved in an accident that results in injury or property damage, you are required to stop and supply information to the other party."
Further:
"If someone is injured, the cyclist must notify a police officer."
