Frank Meadows III recently gave an interview to Financial Planning magazineonly the most recent of several high-profile appearances he has made, talking about his Nottingham Investment Administration company, and the general state of the economy and the investing world. In other words, his might be a familiar name to you, at least if youre involved in the world of investment, and in particular if youve ever sought to establish a mutual fund or a hedge fundspecialties of Frank Meadows III and his Nottingham staff.

But in addition to the well-known and widely-respected work he does with Nottingham, Frank Meadows IIIalso known as Kip Meadowsis also well-respected within the sailing community. In fact, he isnt just an amateur sailorhes a champion sailor. Kip Meadows won the 2010 Melges 32 East Coast Championship, one of the most well-regarded events in the sailing community. Held in Rye, New York, the event is comprised of four separate racesand the combined score of Kip Meadows made him far and away the events champion.

Meadows raced in his craft, the roXanne, and he shared the victory with his tactician Andy Horton.

Kip Meadows hails from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, which is where Nottingham is headquartered. He graduated with a degree in Economics from Duke University, and is still an active member in various Duke alumni associations. Additionally, Meadows serves as a leader to a Boy Scout troop.

These wide-ranging activities actually serve to illustrate the all-encompassing approach that Nottingham takes with each of its clients, handling every aspect of the organization and management of a fund as well as legal and tax preparation. Primarily, though, Kip Meadows sees his work as that of a consultant; advising and offering guidance to clients is clearly the part of the job he and his firm value most.

Kip Meadows founded Nottingham Investment Administration in 1989. Though it is something of a boutique service, Nottingham has been immensely successful, even in a bad economy. The company, which consists of 53 employees, has expanded its clientele from 30 to 60 since 2008, and is currently administering some $25 billion and counting.

Kip Meadows is passionate about sailing, but even more so about advising and mentoring; it is this commitment to running a service-oriented, approachable consultancy that is among the secrets to Nottinghams success, and a primary reason why the company, under Meadows leadership, continues to thrive even during difficult economic times.
