• The Mustang was originally available as only a coupe or a convertible. In September of 1964, a third body style was released. The new style was called the "2 + 2 Fastback." Whereas the roof of the coupe and convertible stopped at the front of the trunk lid, the Fastback's roof extended downward at a gradual angle to an approximate mid-point between the back of the car and the rear tire. The Fastback's dimensions are the same as for the other two models, but the Fastback is slightly taller.
