How to Confront Your Boss
- 1). Ask yourself if the issue is worth the confrontation. Sometimes a matter can seem important to you, but it may not be enough to jeopardize your position in the company. While you may not get fired for bringing an issue to your boss's attention, you may still become the brunt of mistreatment as a result. Is it worth it?
- 2). Get the facts. Are you sure you have all the information you need to confront your boss? Just because it may appear that your boss is performing something unethical doesn't necessarily make it true. Check your sources first to make sure your information is accurate.
- 3). Gather support. Do other employees feel the same way you do, or are you alone? If the issue is important enough to address, you should be able to have a few more people on your side. You don't want to have to confront your boss on your own.
- 4). Prepare yourself. Before confronting your boss, you need to first make sure that you are calm. Your boss will be able to listen to you better if you appear rational. You may also want to prepare some notes just in case you get nervous.
- 5). Exercise tact. Remember that this is your boss you're addressing, so be careful how you approach him or her. Make sure that you remain respectful, since you are speaking to the person who manages your job.
