Efficient sheet metal punching

This tool head comes in two forms. In one form, tool head comes as a single tool head that can hold a single tool and in another form it comes in the form of multi turret heads that can hold a number of tools at the same time. CNC programming is basically required to move the sheet metal along the X-axis and Y-axis in order to correctly place the sheet under the tool. The holes would be punched at the exact location on the sheet metal. CNC punching tools are capable of working on sheet metals that come with thicknesses ranging from .5mm to 6mm. The different types of sheet metal material that can be taken up for punching include Steel, Stainless steel, Zintec and aluminum.

CNC presses are capable of producing holes of different shapes including the regular circular and rectangular holes. In addition to these two shapes, CNC presses make use of tools that are capable of producing complex shapes including 3D forms such as dimples and screw thread plunges. There are CNC punching machines that come with the capability to perform thread tapping operations and punching sheared edges. CNC programming is used to create a design, which can be used for selecting the right kind of tooling required for punching operations. CNC programming can be done using commercially available Software. Using this software, one can also design the layout of the tool components based on the sheet metal size. This software package can help in minimizing the amount of scrap that gets generated as a by product of the punching operation. Different kinds of punching tools are available to speed up the punching process.

Cluster tools are available for punching multiple holes in one single shot, instead of repeating the punching process on the sheet metal. Cluster tools are capable of producing 1000s of holes within a single minute. These tools are used to produce holes in applications such as speaker grilles, LED panels and Light fittings. Another type of tool that can be used in a CNC punching machine is the Engraving tool. This tool is mounted on the CNC punching press when identification information such as part name, customer name, product name and year of manufacture have to be engraved on the sheet metal. One major advantage of using CNC punching press for doing engraving is its ability to meet the changing requirements. When the engraved information needs to be changed, a small change to the existing program is enough to make the changes in the engraved information.

Sometimes, customers may not have the required space for storing sheet metal of considerable lengths. In such a scenario, holes can be made along the length of the sheet. This would reduce the strength of the sheet, thereby enabling the folding of the sheet metal. The folded Lengthy sheet metal can now be stored easily.
