Maryland Windshield Replacement Law
Composition
Only windshields with a composition of AS-1 or AS-4 safety glazing are legal in Maryland. This information can be found in the corner of the windshield near the manufacturer's trademark.
Chips and Cracks
Cracks, discolorations, scratches, or anything else on the windshield that obscures the driver's view will cause a car to fail a safety inspection. In critical areas, any crack or chip cannot exceed a half-inch in diameter. In non-critical areas on the driver's side, a chip or crack cannot exceed 1 inch in diameter. In non-critical areas on the passenger side, a chip or crack cannot exceed 2 inches in diameter.
Cloudiness
On the driver's side of the windshield, cloudiness cannot exceed 1 inch from the top or sides or 1 inch into the critical area at the bottom. On the passenger's side, cloudiness cannot exceed 2 inches from the top or side or 2 inches into the critical area at the bottom.
