A fire that destroyed much of the backlot at Universal Studios was still smoking when the 2008 MTV Movie Awards rolled out the yellow carpet for their 17th annual event. But as they say in Hollywood, the show must go in and so it did - with barely a mention of the three alarm fire that broke out just hours prior to the telecast.

As usual, the MTV Movie Awards were heavy with stars promoting their upcoming films.

Host Mike Myers mentioned The Love Guru at every possible opportunity, and the show's presenters used their time to try and build buzz about their soon-to-be-released movies. Seth Rogen and James Franco even went as far as to act like they were smoking pot on stage in support of their comedy movie Pineapple Express. Despite that weird bit, the show was actually very, very tame and only mildly funny. Even the random audience shots showed a batch of bored people...
