Pregnancy Stretch Marks

Despite the obvious joy of having a new member in the family, sometimes for the first time, a woman cannot help but think about the obvious effects on her body of this major physical event of pregnancy.

Not only will she be putting on additional weight - in addition to the weight of the actual child of course - but from about the third month she starts to see the appearance of red or purple lines indicating the presence of stretch marks. These can form on the abdomen, buttocks and thighs and also on the breasts. About 90 percent of women do get stretch marks. Because a woman is judged in Western Society largely on her appearance, getting this kind of imperfection can be quite a concern and somewhat stressful!

These kinds of marks are created when the tissue below the surface layer of skin, expands at a rate which is faster than the rate of expansion of the skin above it. They typically appear as wavy lines on the skin, are red or purple when forming and can settle down into a pale silver or gray colour. They are quite often itchy while they are forming.

A lack of zinc has also been associated with the development of these marks. The mineral zinc is essential for skin repair. A good quality zinc supplement will have added magnesium and vitamin B6 for optimum absorption. Vitamin C is also important as it helps maintain the skin's elasticity via its role in collagen production.

Vitamin E is another substance that can greatly assist with all kinds of skin repair. Application of Vitamin E oils is excellent for preventing scars where a burn has occurred. It is also good for healing cuts and assisting with acne. So it is no surprise to see vitamin E included in creams and lotions that assist with the prevention and handling of stretch marks.

Because these marks are in essence scars, they are extremely difficult to completely eradicate once they are formed. Prevention of pregnancy stretch marks before they occur is therefore essential.
Revitol Stretch Mark Cream contains a combination of natural ingredients such as squalene oil, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D3 as well as aloe vera and grapefruit seed extracts. Together these ingredients form a powerful blend that will increase the elasticity of your skin and stimulate the production of new skin cells.

This is the key to avoiding the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy.
