Sunday School Learning Center Ideas
- Sunday-school learning center ideas involving Bible characters can be as simple or as advanced as you like. Activities involving Biblical characters help children become more familiar with individual names they frequently hear about in a church setting and gain a deeper understanding of why these individuals are important to their faith. As a main focus of this Sunday-school learning center activity, instruct children to match paper cut-out Biblical figures with what they are best known for, such as Moses and the Red Sea, Jonah and the whale or Noah and the Ark.
- Select common child-friendly Biblical themes such as kindness to others, respect for parents, loving your neighbor and refraining from stealing. Allow children to act out these themes in a puppet show while others in the school try to guess what their words and actions are intended to represent. Puppets can be Biblical figures or animal puppets.
- Prayer cards are origami-style paper creations that feature multiple folding panels containing common prayers. The cards are intended to not only to aid in the memorization of prayers, but also to serve as a "take along" for children when they attend church services. Children can enjoy writing the prayers in their cards and then decorating cards with stickers, crayons and markers. Older children may enjoy making prayer cards from colorful scrapbooking paper and laminating the finished pieces.
- The cross is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Christian faith. Provide children with unfinished wooden crosses, available at many arts and crafts stores, and allow them to embellish and decorate the crosses as they like. Decorating materials can include paints, self-stick rhinestones and crystals, beads, glitter, confetti, fabric scraps and ribbon and lace. Older children could decoupage crosses with color photos depicting Biblical scenes that are of personal significance to them.
