The Benefits of a Mastermind
This week I had the pleasure of speaking to a wonderful group of women at a women's networking group called WIN Big in Los Angeles and holding a workshop at Pitzer College here in Claremont.
Both events remind me of why I do what I do, and I feel grateful that I get to do this for a living.
As you're reading this, it's likely that I am in a meeting with my mastermind group - another group of great women that I feel honoured to know.

"The Benefits of a Mastermind" A mastermind group is a gathering of people who want to achieve specific goals and therefore success.
The people who attend are usually very driven and represent various types of industries.
Even though they don't share the same expertise within their field, the members benefit by brainstorming together and for each other.
It can be really powerful to receive an objective opinion from another successful.
Per Napolean Hill's famous "Think & Grow Rich", he states that No individual may have great power without availing himself of the "Master Mind.
" Another benefit of the mastermind is the support that comes with it.
You feel part of a community that has your best interests at heart.
They are there to support you and help you achieve your goals.
I've found that this is usually my favourite part - helping other people get to the next step in achieving their goals.
Support is usually available in-between meetings as well, which is nice.
The members of the group become your friends! For us entrepreneurs, it's comforting to know you're not alone and that you have a support group that "get" the unique challenges of being in business for yourself.
A mastermind group is also great for the accountability factor.
Each person gets a chance to share a challenge they're having and the rest of the group brainstorms ideas on how that person can move forward.
By the end of each person's turn, their next steps have been identified and they are expected to implement them before the next meeting.
This is like checking-in with a professional coach or fitness trainer for fitness related goals.
The next point is debatable.
A lot of times these groups only work when people pay money to belong.
The thought behind it is this.
People are more likely to show-up and do the work if they have paid money to join something.
Several people have asked me before to be in a group with them, but when it came down to the logistics of it all, they ended up backing out before we even got started! I'm pretty sure if it was a cost-based program we would have moved forward with it.
I'm happy to say the group I belong to is free, but the difference is that these people take their businesses seriously and are doing whatever it takes to grow them.
I for one - not to toot by own horn - drive an hour each way to be a part of this group.
Some could say it's a waste of time, but for me it's important to be a part of a group filled with like-minded people, and plus we meet by the ocean so I really can't resist! Do some research in your area to see if there are any groups you can check out.
Make sure you join a group that's the right fit for you.
You want to be surrounded by people that inspire and encourage you always.
It's also important that some of the members are more successful than you.
