How to Stay Fit in Cold Weather Months

It's November and winter is just around the corner.
When the weather gets colder some of us become sluggish and lose motivation to keep fit.
While this might seem the normal response of our bodies it is not healthy to stop exercising all throughout the cold weather months.
Here are some ways to stay fit indoors and outdoors.
Set a goal to keep motivated.
It's hard to be motivated when staying under the blanket is more appealing than getting dressed for training.
To keep you in top shape set a goal and remind yourself about this objective when you're feeling lethargic.
This goal can be anything from losing 4 lbs, to building a 6 pack, to having a toned physique.
Have you tried stretching in bed? It's a good way to get your blood circulating on a chilly day.
When the alarm clock goes off, don't get up.
Instead start your stretching exercises - in bed.
Raise your hands over your head and slowly reach for your toes, feel the stretch.
Hold for 10 seconds.
Next lie on your right side, swing your left leg over the right and bring your left knee towards your chin then lay it down the bed.
Stretch your neck by bending your head towards the left leg.
Repeat on the other side.
Next give your spine a good stretch.
Lie on your back and tuck your knees under your arms.
Bend your head down so your chin touches your chest and start rocking.
Make sure that you are not cooped up indoors all day.
Your body needs vitamin D and you need to catch the sun to do this.
Though vitamin supplements are good, nothing beats the warmth of the sun on your cheeks.
Take a break from whatever it is you're doing indoors and take a walk or jog outside for 10 minutes to get some sunlight.
Brisk walking is a good exercise outdoors.
When you're outside you also have more opportunities to stretch your body.
During late fall and the winter months it's hard to step outside in the cold.
When you go brisk walking or jogging remember to dress appropriately for the weather.
Bundle up or dress in layers.
It's time to put away your warm-weather clothes.
Wear a scarf if it's very cold.
Wear gloves or mittens.
Your exercise shoes should be at least half-size larger so you can wear thermal socks or two pairs of regular socks.
Hats, tuques or headbands will cover and protect your ears.
Hands, feet and ears are all vulnerable to frost bite.
You also need to wear reflective clothing when it's dark outside.
Footwear should have enough traction to prevent falls on icy surfaces.
If you'resnowboardingor skiing don't forget to wear a helmet.
So there you have it - stretching exercises indoors and some moderate activity outdoors.
The important thing is to keep the active, stay fit and be happy - even on gloomy days.
