The King of the Sand and the Mystical Dagger - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
The movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is an action-packed fantasy film which was released in 2010. The production was directed by Mike Newell and includes many well known stars, including Jake Gyllenhaal as the central character, Prince Dastan as well as Ben Kinsley as the sinister Nizam, and the actress Gemma Arterton as the Princess of the City of Alamut, Tamina. The setting of the film is the sixth century, in Persia. As a young boy, Dastan's parents die and he becomes a street orphan. The King Sharaman rescues him from this fate by adopting him, and bringing him to live in his Royal Palace, along with his two other sons, Tus and Garsiv. It quickly becomes clear that Dastan is a talented warrior and he earns the nickname of the 'King of the Sand'. Word reaches Dastan and his brothers, that the Holy City of Alamut has been supplying enemies of Persia with weapons. Together, the three men decide to plan an attack of Alamut, which Dastan leads. During the battle which ensures, Dastan finds an unusual dagger, which he eventually discovers has the ability to reverse time. After this, Dastan meets the beautiful Tamina, the princess for the first time. After the battle is won, the men arrest the princess and for the sake of peace in the city, Tamina agrees to a marriage proposal form Tus, Dastan's brother. Dastan then unwittingly gives a poisonous robe to his father the King, who then wears it and dies. Dastan is falsely accused of murder and has to flee from the city, taking the princess with him. The power of the dagger is discovered by Dastan when the princess attempts to kill him. After this, the two agree to a truce and make their way to Avrat city, where Dastan meets his uncle Nizam and tries to convince him of his innocence. However his attempt is interrupted by the guards of the city who attack him, and he once again flees from the city.
The princess then reveals to Dastan the truth behind the attack on the city of Alamut; his Uncle Nizam wanted to possess the mystical dagger, which would allow him to travel back in time, so as to crown himself the King. Using the magic of the dagger, Prince Dastan then goes on a quest to prevent his evil uncle from fulfilling his sinister plan.
