- 1). Mix 2 tablespoons baking soda (bicarbonate soda), and 2 drops of edible essential oil (like clove or aniseed or peppermint).
- 2). Take a cotton ball (sometimes called cotton wool) and wet it with water. Then dip the cotton ball into the toothpaste mixture above.
You could use a toothbrush, but this can hurt the dog's gums. If you choose to use one anyway, pick a soft bristled toothbrush, or look for a dog toothbrush at the pet store. - 3). Take the cotton ball and rub it along the dog's teeth and gums. This assumes your pet is comfortable and allows you to do this! After you've brushed his teeth, allow the dog to drink some water.
If your dog refuses, you can add a bit of the mix to his food. It's not as effective, but better than nothing. - 4). Repeat this procedure daily. If symptoms persist, take the dog to the vet to rule out digestive problems or more serious conditions.
