How to Write a Bible Study

    • 1). Pray about the subject. Ask God to speak to you and help you choose the right passage or topic to study.

    • 2). Review the group of people that will be attending the lesson. Look at the target audience and determine what this group has in common or what subject would benefit this particular group.

    • 3). Choose a topic or passage. Bible studies generally either cover one specific passage in the Bible, or one specific subject. For example, many Bible studies cover the passage of Psalm 23. This famous passage begins "The Lord is my Shepherd," and is a passage that has been studied by many people. Or you might choose a subject, such as "What does God say about the role of parents?"

    • 4). Research the subject. Read the passage or look up relevant passages. Read books or look up online sources regarding the subject. Try to take an innovative approach to the subject, unless this group of people is new to the Bible. Find as much information about the subject as possible and again pray that God speaks to your heart about what He wants people to learn about through this study.

    • 5). Develop questions to discuss. When you develop questions, try to make the questions cause the participants to really think about what God is saying in the passages being studied. Create questions that will help the participants relate the passage to everyday life. Avoid questions that are extremely obvious or ones that have a simple yes or no answer. Try to come up with questions that will provoke thought and further discussion of the question.

    • 6). Create homework for the participants. Think of an activity that the participants can complete at home on their own. This might be making a list of some kind that relates to the subject or it might be choosing a specific trait that they should focus on for the next week or so.
