Instructions for a Rival Rice Cooker

    • 1). Remove the inner pan and add raw rice, using your measuring cup. Rival rice cookers come in a variety of sizes; therefore don't exceed your cooker's maximum capacity, taking into consideration the cooked volume of the rice.

    • 2). Rinse off the excess starch by running cold water in the pan and letting it flow out until the water is fairly clear. Slowly pour out the water, yet be careful not to pour out the wet rice.

    • 3). Add water to the pan, filling to the line that corresponds with the amount of rice you added. The measurements are for white rice. If you are cooking brown rice, refer to your rice package for the recommended amount of water to add. It takes more water to cook brown rice than white rice.

    • 4). Place the inner pan back into the rice cooker and cover with a lid. If the outside of the inner pan is wet, wipe dry before adding it to the cooker.

    • 5). Plug the rice cooker into an electrical outlet and turn on after 20 minutes. Letting the rice soak before cooking will make softer rice. A light will turn on indicating the rice is cooking. When it is finished, the light turns off and a warming light turns on (if your model has a warmer). If your model has a warming feature, it will keep the rice warm until you are ready to serve.

    • 6). Wait at least 10 minutes after the rice finishes cooking to open the lid. Use a wood or rice paddle to remove the rice, as a metal utensil will scratch the surface of the inner pan.
