How to Connect Cable TV to a Sony RDR-HXD870
- 1). Connect a coaxial cable from the wall jack to the back of the cable box into the port labeled, "Cable In."
- 2). Connect a coaxial cable from the "Cable Out" port on the back of the cable box to the "Digital Aerial In" jack on the back of the RDR-HXD870.
- 3). Connect a video cable from the back of the RDR-HXD870 to an available input on the back of the TV. You can use RCA, coaxial, s-video, component, or HDMI cables (in order of increasing quality). For RCA, connect the yellow video cable into "Line 2 Out Video." For coaxial, connect the cable into the "Digital Aerial Out" jack. For S-Video connect the cable into the "S-Video" port located to the right of the component cable connectors (the red, blue, and green connectors). For component cables, connect all three of the red, blue, and green component cables to the "Component Video Out" port. For HDMI, connect the cable into "HDMI Out." Connect the other end of the cable used into an input on the back of the TV. Not all TV's will have all of these connectors.
- 4). Connect an audio cable from the back of the RDR-HXD870 to the same input used for the video cable. You can either use red and white RCA cables or you can use a coaxial audio cable, which is different from a coaxial video cable. For RCA, connect the red and white cables into the "Line 2 Out Audio" jacks. For coaxial audio, connect the cable into "Digital Out Coaxial." Connect the other end of the audio cable used to the back of the TV. Not every TV has a coaxial audio cable input. If you used coaxial or HDMI as your video cable, you can skip this step.
- 5). Turn on the both the recorder and the TV, then set the TV's input to the one used to connect the recorder.
