ExpoImaging seems bent on domination of the photography world as they continue to release photo accessories that are refreshingly useful and reasonably priced. One of the latest offerings is the Rogue Gels packs. The universal lighting gel kit fits basically any shoe mount flash on the market while the Gels for the Rogue Grid pack fit neatly into the Rouge Grid Honeycomb.

Rouge Gels are an excellent option for photographers who use multiple shoe mount flashes for their studio work.

Low cost, high quality, and easy of use rarely combine so well. Rogue Gels are also an excellent opportunity for photographers to get into gel use without spending a fortune in the process.

What I Like About It

Organization

The carry pouch and organization dividers make it easy to keep track of gels and find a specific gel quickly.

Labels on Gels

Each gel is neatly labeled in a location where it will not affect light output or cause shadows. Each label includes not only the color name but also the light loss (measured in F-Stops of course) and white balance icon. Correction filters include the color temperature range in Kelvin as well.

Sturdy Construction

I've seen several reviewers talking about how you can use things like colored plastic wrap as a gel so why buy a set like this. Sturdy material and neatness is a big plus. Sure, you can use rubber bands, twist ties, or tape to temporarily stick just about any translucent material on your flash. Show up at a wedding with a wad of Saran Wrap on your flash and you'll be lucky to be allowed to stay to finish that job.

Rogue Gels are neatly trimmed and sturdy so they can be used over and over without tears and without damaging your professional reputation.

Stackable

Although light loss might be an issue (as it would be with any stacked gels), the flexibility to stack the Rogue Gels makes the color possibilities nearly endless with either gel kit. No more need to have dozens of solid color background cloths when you can turn a white cloth into nearly any color you need at a moment's notice.

Serves an Actual Purpose

Far too many photo accessories today are nearly pointless. The Rogue Gels actually fill a need without breaking the bank. The Rogue Gels are a nice assortment of colors and functions (corrections) that most any photographer can use. From helping correct difficult light situations, to creative lighting, and quick background highlights, the Rogue Gels serve a purpose and they serve that purpose well.

What I Don't Like About It

Nothing

It is exceptionally rare when I can't find a potential downside to a product but this is a product where I just don't see any potential problems. They are well made, look neat when in use, store easily, and are not overpriced.
