How to Select a Guitar Cable
- 1). Acquaint yourself with the different types of guitar cables. Longer cables or cordless units may be needed if you intend to play shows, but 10-foot cables are an excellent length for a novice guitar player. Some cables come with plated plugs in order to increase the quality of the guitar signal, but unless your intent is to record, a regular cable will do.
- 2). Visit a guitar store and familiarize yourself with their guitar cable inventory. If you get confused, you can always ask an employee what cable is best suited for you.
- 3). Try the guitar cable out before you buy it, if possible. If you are visiting a guitar store, try to use a guitar as similar to the one that you own as possible. If you try a cable out before you buy it, you can immediately recognize if there is anything you dislike about it.
- 4). Look for the best price before purchasing your cable. High end guitar cables sometimes run over $50, but generally, solid-quality guitar cables will cost you less than $20. You may want to think about buying cable ties to keep your cords from getting tangled as well.
