A Pea in the Pod Cake Ideas
- Create a tiered pea in the pod cake using three round cake pans of varying measurement. Bake the cakes then stack from biggest to smallest. Use pea green frosting to decorate the cakes, and use cake decorating stencils to create peas on the cake. A frosting bag with a large tip is used to dot the bottom of each layer with green frosting blobs representing peas. The top of the cake is decorated with a fondant pea pod, created with brown fondant shaped to imitate an open pea pod, then green rolled fondant placed inside the brown.
- Create a nonedible cake made from diapers and receiving blankets or other soft fabric blankets of a dark green and light green color. Line diapers together with the openings facing down on top of the dark green blanket, tuck the light green blanket over the top of the diapers, and tie the ends with string to represent a pea pod. Diaper cakes are popular at baby showers despite being nonedible, because they are still useful to the parents-to-be.
- Create a one-layer cake with a cute pea baby on top. Marshmallow fondant is very pliable and easiest to work with for making shaped decorations. Make one layer of cake and decorate with pea green frosting. Shape a pea pod with fondant, then place a cute fondant baby face inside the pea pod. This cake idea will require a few days of preparation, as fondant decorations need to dry before use. Find a simple marshmallow fondant recipe in the Resources section, and make practice babies before attempting the real thing.
- Create cute cupcakes for a pea in the pod baby shower. Bake cupcakes as usual and use green frosting for the base. Create pea pod decorations with dark green fondant shaped in a canoe fashion. Insert two or three light green rolled balls into the pods, and present the cupcakes as an easy dessert. Many party planners favor cupcakes over a full cake to speed serving or avoid dealing with a knife. A baby shower where children are invited may benefit from pea pod cupcakes as well.
