How to Jump-Start a Volvo S80
- 1). Park the front of the donor vehicle's car as close as possible to the front of the Volvo S80. Open the hood of the Volvo S80. The battery is in the front right compartment of the car, just behind the driver's-side headlight.
- 2). Locate the two terminals. Terminals are two round raised ends on the battery. The terminals will be located with a "+" for positive and a "-" for negative. Some aftermarket battery terminals can also be identified by the colors red (for positive) or black (for negative). It is important that you do not confuse the two terminals.
- 3). Take two ends of your jumper cables and place the red clamp onto the positive terminal. Then, place the black clamp on the negative terminal.
Note: During this process, make sure the clamps on the other end of the jumper cables are not touching each other or metal objects. - 4). Once the clamps are on the Volve S80 battery, repeat steps 1-4 on the donor vehicle. Once again, be sure that the red clamp is placed on the positive terminal, and the black clamp is placed on the negative terminal.
- 5). Start the engine of the donor vehicle and allow the engine to run for about five minutes. Then, with the clamps still attached to both vehicles, try starting the engine of the Volvo S80. Once both vehicles are running, proceed to take off the clamps of both vehicles. Once again, make sure that the clamps do not touch each other or any other metal parts.
