How to Make a Graphic Transparent With Gimp for Unix

    • 1). Launch the GIMP application on your Unix computer.

    • 2). Click "File" from the GIMP menu bar, and then click "Open." A dialog box appears.

    • 3). Click the folder that has the graphic you want to make transparent, select the file, and then click "Open." The graphic opens, and an icon of the graphic appears in a layer in the "Layers" palette.

    • 4). Click the layer in the Layers palette to select it.

    • 5). Click the "Opacity" slider in the Layers palette, and drag it to the left to make the graphic transparent. When you drag the Opacity slider all the way to the left, the graphic is completely transparent, and when you drag the slider all the way to the right, it is completely opaque.
