Smaller Leaks, Above Water Level

• 1). Clean the immediate area around the leak, making sure to clear away any algae or plants growing on the walls of the pond around the area to be patched.
  
  
• 2). Spread the adhesive on the back of the patch.
  
  
• 3). Hold the patch over the leak and press firmly. Keep firm pressure on the patch for the length of time specified by the manufacturer.
  
  

Larger Leaks

• 1). Drain the pond so that the leak is exposed. If the leak is near the top of the pond, you can leave the plants and fish in your pond where they are. If it is closer to the bottom, you have to relocate them to a tank or small child's pool filled with water from your pond while you drain all the water. This is also a good time to perform a general cleaning.
  
  
• 2). Allow the area around the leak to dry.
  
  
• 3). Clean the area to be repaired. Some kits come with a scrubbing pad that roughens up the surface of the liner to allow the adhesive to grip better. They might also include an alcohol solution to be used for cleaning.
  
  
• 4). Measure the leak and cut the patch. Cut the patch at least 1 inch larger on each side than the leak.
  
  
• 5). Apply the cement included in the kit to the back of the patch.
  
  
• 6). Allow the glue to "prime" or become sticky. The manufacturer specifies the waiting time.
  
  
• 7). Apply the patch to the hole in the liner.
  
  
• 8). Allow the patch to dry. Usually this is about 12 hours, but some kits may dry slower or quicker than others, or may not need to be dried at all. Follow manufacturer instructions.
  
  
• 9). Refill the pond, add back your plants and fish if necessary.
