How to Cite a Court Case Involving Minors

Identify the Case to be Cited and Its Availability for Citation

    • 1). Cite only cases published by either a state or federal court.

    • 2). Cite cases verbatim and interpret their relevance and meaning separately.

    • 3). Cite cases involving minors as you would any other case, being sure to use the minor's first name and last initial only, even if the citing uses the minor's full name.

    • 4). Use the exact caption of the case, as well as the case number, if you are citing a juvenile dependency case. (For example, "In Re: Jane D., a minor, Case Number 999999.")
