Gilroy, CA: Health Care Reform Update - States Will Have More Power: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California The latest on the health care reform front is that the Obama Administration is shifting more power to states, telling them that they can make the decision about what treatments many insurance plans must cover under the new law. The President apparently decided that there were so many battles to fight with Republicans at this juncture that having a major blow-up with powerful Republican state officials and advocacy groups was not where he wanted to place his efforts. A full 26 states have brought lawsuits challenging President Obama's health care plan. The change in policy is a disappointment to many specialty physicians, drug companies and others in the medical profession which were hoping for nationwide guidelines on what treatments would be covered. Coverage of things like acupuncture, chiropractic treatments and other specialty services will now be decided at the state level. Many groups are against the changes. "People with cancer and their families have fared well under the largest federal employees' health-benefits plans," Stephen Finan, senior director of policy at the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, told the Wall Street Journal. "The quality of coverage patients receive...is less certain," he said. In my view, the President is making the right move. There are so many problems with the economy that he needs to get settled with Congress, bickering with states about exactly which services will be covered under the health care reform law doesn't seem like the best use of time at this point.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203733304577102853112696874.htmlAbout Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey:After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies.
