Lupu – Bridge Over Shanghai Waters
Shanghai's Lupu Bridge serves both as a mode of travelling as well as an attraction. Connecting the two banks of the Huangpu River, it connects the Luban Road in Puxi, which is the Northern end, to Jiyang Road in Pudong, which is the Southern end. The Bridge spans a total length of 5.4 miles which makes it the world's first steel arch bridge with the longest span.
This absolutely beautiful construction of steel is a simple arc over the enchanting Huangpu River depicting a rainbow just right over the width of the River. But what is more admirable is the technologies of bridge making integrated in to it; this engineering and technological feats combines the technologies of Cable-stayed, suspension and arch bridges. Built with an unbelievable amount of steel, the Bridge can accommodate six lanes of normal traffic and is constructed in such a manner that 70,000-ton-class vessel can easily pass underneath it on the river.
The Lupu Bridge, just like the Sydney's Bay Bridge, also serves as a tourist attraction. With a sightseeing platform located right at the top of the arch, it affords spectacular views of the river below and the surrounding city area. Of course in order to get to the top, sightseers would have to climb the 300 odd stairs which leads to the platform, unless one prefers the easy option of the high-speed lift available for the use of the visitors.
The platform is located at about a 100 meter height from the road level and the stage is about the size of a basketball court. From this staging area visitors can get a bird's eye view of the city of Shanghai and the 2010 Shanghai Expo grounds.
Visitors to this amazingly modernistic city are availed a range of lodging options. Visitors seeking a Shanghai hotel can easily find the ideal accommodation option to suit the budget as well as the required facilities and location. Though all accommodation options in this city promises warm oriental hospitality and modern amenities, most travellers prefer the luxury of Shanghai five star hotels .For easy access to the best of attractions and for a luxurious accommodation option try the Millennium Hongqiao Hotel Shanghai.
