Make a Miniature Hand Mixer For the Dollhouse

This miniature hand mixer is made from polymer clay, dressmakers pins or jewelry head pins, and scraps of a recycled aluminum pie plate.  It can be made with or without a cord, and sized to several dollhouse scales. I based the design on an old sunbeam hand mixer dating from the 1950's which was inherited from my grandmother when I went of to university.

The mixer works well with the other miniature kitchen accessories  including the classic mixing bowl.

For the photographs in this tutorial, I've shown the mixer with whipped egg whites made from dried shaving foam. This is a short term effect, until the shaving foam dries up so much it blows away, but it is effective for photographs!

To make this miniature mixer you will need two flat headed dressmakers pins or jewelry head pins, polymer clay in your choice of colors (I used black, white and red for the switch), scraps of pie plate foil or something similar, and two small crimp beads (sized to fit your pin, I used #1) as well as two slightly longer crimp beads to hold the beaters to the mixer (I used #2s from beadalon). If you want your mixer beaters removable, you will also need some museum wax or tacky wax to fit the beaters into the beater holders.  To make a cord, you will need some heavy black quilting or buttonhole twist thread and some scrap metal for the pins.

Tools which are useful include embossing tools, a flat pencil eraser, bent nose tweezers, and a pair of end cutters. You will also need a pair of pliers to crimp the crimp beads on your beaters.
