History of The Plaza:
The Plaza originally opened in 1907 to great fanfare, and in 1969 was designated a New York City Landmark. Closed nearly a hundred years later for conversion to condos, history buffs and hotel fans complained enough that the property reopened as a hotel in 2008, although many units remain condos.
