How to Install a Star Choice Satellite Dish
- 1). Make sure the Star Choice Satellite Dish is correctly mounted. Ensure first that the mounting area is free of debris. Also check the sky to make sure that there are no obstructions such as trees and tall buildings to the dish's view of the southern sky. As you set your Star Choice Satellite Dish in the obstruction-free mounting zone, use a hand-held level to measure along the dish's mast, otherwise your dish may not be mounted level.
- 2). Aim the Star Choice Satellite Dish to the southern sky. This need only be a very crude, directional aim at this juncture, in preparation for later adjustments. A compass may be helpful.
- 3). Connect the Star Choice Satellite receiver to your television. This is accomplished audio/video (AV) cables. The standard A/V cables that come with your Star Choice Satellite Dish will have a set of plugs on each end of the cables. Notice that each plug is either red, white or yellow. Locate the color-coded jacks on the back of your TV and on the back of the satellite receiver. Insert the plugs on the ends of these cables to their color-corresponding jacks in the back of the TV and satellite receiver. These connect the audio and video signals from the receiver to the TV.
- 4). Connect the coaxial cable that runs from the satellite dish outside to the satellite receiver. This connection will be made to the ANT IN labeled port on the back of the receiver. Power on the satellite receiver and the television. Set your TV's input to the audio/video jacks where you have connected the satellite receiver. A menu will appear, and from this menu select the "signal meter screen" option. Have a friend stay by the television while you return to the Star Choice Satellite Dish outside.
- 5). Adjust the elevation of the Star Choice Satellite Dish. Do this by loosening the nuts by the elevation bolts with a wrench (your Star Choice Satellite Dish's manual provides a visual diagram of the elevation bolts). With these bolts loosened, make slight up and down movements, and after each adjustment, wait for a report from your friend watching the signal meter screen. He can inform you as to how close you are to the right elevation coordinates. Make further adjustments as necessary.
- 6). Adjust the azimuth of the Star Choice Satellite Dish, which is the left to right orientation of the dish. Loosen the LNB dish arm nuts with your wrench before making these adjustments. After each slight left or right adjustment, wait for a signal meter screen report. Once an overall signal reading of between 70 and 80 is achieved, you are ready to view satellite programming. Tighten all bolts.
