How Children Become Overweight

Being overweight has become a modern disease. More and more people every day admit to themselves that they are not comfortable with their weight any more and that they have a problem. That is a good start. However, what is even more alarming is the fact that one in every four children is overweight, too. That is something that is even harder to admit.

When grownups have any problem, not just weight problem, they tend to blame someone else for causing it. We can easily say that everyday life, which is tense and stressful, is responsible for our problems. But we can, also, say that we have lost control over our lives, and that it is easier when you leave things to happen as they do. That is how our children became overweight.

However, if you are one of those people and you are reading this, you can do something to change your family's habits right now. I would like to think that it didn't go that far and that you can do things to prevent it. If weight problem already went too far, don't worry, it is never too late. Just take control in your own hands as an adult, be determined and you and your child will succeed.

What is very important while changing eating habits to your child is that your whole family is included. One child or parent cannot eat sweets or fast food if another child isn't allowed to eat that. That makes it much harder for overweight child to cope with it when everyone else in the house enjoys food that he or she likes. In fact, you can turn this situation all around and make use of it for whole family. If you, first, as a parent, began to eat healthier food instead of junk food, then your child will look up to you, as they always do weather it's right or wrong, and start to eat healthy.

The positive side of including whole family in changing eating habits, for the sake of your overweight child, is that you can throw away all that unhealthy food. This way you will not be torn between two kids who want different kind of snacks. You will have only one kind of food in your house, the healthy kind, and they can choose between those.

Maybe it sounds cruel but it is not. It is good, in long terms, for kids to accept right way of eating. Then you will not have to worry that, when they grow up and leave you, they will get back to old ways. Maybe they do, but soon, when they are mature enough, will choose health again remembering when they were feeling better and healthier.
