How to Install Red & White Audio Wires
- 1). Locate the wire port panel on your television or stereo. On older television sets, the panel may be on one of the lower back corners or along one of the sides. With the help of an assistant, turn the set or stereo so that you can easily access the panel.
- 2). Wipe away any visible dust or dirt around the red and white ports, using a microfiber cloth. Do not use any moisture or cleaning agents. If there is dust or dirt on the inside of the ports, sweep it out with a small, soft paintbrush. Position a can of compressed air at an angle to the port and fire a few short bursts of air.
- 3). Insert the white plug end into the corresponding white port. Repeat for the red plug end. Ensure that the plug ends are pushed as far over the ports as they will go. This ensures a tight connection and will maximize sound quality.
- 4). Unravel the rest of the black cable attached to the red and white plug ends. Depending on the type of electronic device you are installing--DVD player, stereo, gaming console--the adapter at the other end of the cable will vary in appearance. Plug the adapter into the back of your device. If you are having trouble locating the correct port, use the adapter's metal pin pattern as a visual reference.
- 5). Power on your device and test the audio relay. Use a remote to switch the television set to auxiliary (AUX) mode to test gaming consoles and audio equipment; DVD mode to test a DVD player.
- 6). Place the newly installed electronic device in the location of your choice. Tuck the wires neatly behind the television and device. Move the set back to its original position.
