Most towns and cities have public pools for residents who don't have their own facilities. Although you can find pools with special accommodations for a membership fee, public pools are perfect for those who just want to take a quick dip. In the Boston area, there are a handful of pools open to the public during the summer season. Many of them have lifeguards and provide safety for both children and the elderly.

    Reilly Memorial Swimming Pool

    • The Reilly Memorial Swimming Pool is located on the scenic Chestnut Hill, just a train ride away from the city. It's a great place to take the kids, but it also offers an adult swim hour between 6 and 7 p.m. for those looking to get their fill of exercise. It can get crowded, but there are several restaurants and shops nearby for a change of pace. During the summer it is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On weekends it is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
