Classification of Asthma Severity in Children

    Asthma Causes

    • Asthma is an inflammation that causes a narrowing in the airways. It can be triggered by factors like allergies, cigarette smoke, respiratory infections, exercise, stress or sudden temperature changes.

    Mild Intermittent

    • Daytime symptoms occur twice a week or less in cases of mild intermittent asthma. Night-time symptoms can occur up to two times per month.

    Mild Persistent

    • Daytime symptoms occur more than twice each week in cases of mild persistent asthma. Night-time symptoms that occur more than two times in a month.

    Moderate Persistent

    • Daytime symptoms occur everyday. Night-time symptoms occur more than one time each week in cases of moderate persistent asthma.

    Severe Persistent

    • Daytime symptoms occur continually each day. Cases of severe persistent asthma have night-time symptoms that occur on a regular basis.
