How to Check a Cable TV Signal
- 1). Power on the television first and flip through the stations. If there is no audio or video distortion and you are receiving all of your standard stations, there isn't anything wrong and the cable signal is fine.
- 2). Power down the TV and the cable receiver, then inspect the cables' connection the receiver and the TV. Make sure the cables are inserted properly. If the cables are loose, it can result in a lose of signal and distortion.
- 3). Disconnect the coaxial cable running from the wall into the receiver. Look at the metal pin in the middle of the connection. If the metal pin is bent, it results in issues with the signal. Straighten the metal pin with a pair of needle nose pliers.
- 4). Try a different cable connection from the cable receiver to your TV. It is possible the cables or even the connection itself is damaged, so if you are using RCA cables, you can switch to a component cable connection (five different cables, three video two audio). You may find this connection functions fine while the old connection doesn't.
- 5). Contact your cable provider. It is possible the single became damaged during a storm and your cable is going to stay out until the company corrects the issue.
