Have an Exciting Family Day during Your Isle of Wight Holidays
The Isle of Wight is the ideal location for family days out. Victorian theme parks, pirate theme parks and wonderful beaches with multi-coloured sand all make for the perfect family holiday. But when you're on holiday, finding suitable accommodation is very important; by spending your holiday in one of the Isle of Wight's self-catering cottages, you can enjoy a comfortable base from where to do it all.. For a start, why not get exotic and try the Owl and Monkey Haven in Newport? There's nothing quite like it anywhere else on the island! It's there to give a safe and happy home to abandoned monkeys and birds of prey, some of which have been pets or the descendants of pets.
Then there's Robin Hill Adventure Park, again in Newport and again the perfect recipe for a proper adventurous family day out. Roan Hill adventure park is crammed with awesome nautical and pirate themed rides, including the Colossus swinging galleon, and the Toboggan run, Charmingly old fashioned and full of excitement at the same time, it is the perfect destination for families staying in one of the ideally located self-catering cottages nearby. Nearby, for the young pirate lovers in your family, is the Blackgang Chine theme park. One of the strangest places in the world, the Blackgang Chine theme park (or "imagination and adventure land", as it likes to be called), combines several different legends and play themes into one big Victorian mess of fun. The big kids and little kids alike will love its eclectic mixture of pirates; dragons; dinosaurs; and fairy stories!
Some of the attractions, which are mostly enjoyed by families on cottage holidays on the Isle of Wight, are not fixed to a specific location. The Goodleaf Tree Climbing Company, for instance, takes people ages 8 to 80 up into the branches for a unique squirrel's eye view of the Isle of Wight.
Cycle hire is another great way to have adventures on the island – and with miles of safe, manicured cycle track to enjoy, every family is sure to wear itself out happily. Perfect for getting up the hunger to go home and cook a meal.
Planet Ice, the ice skating rink, offers discounts for families and is normally open all year round. You are of course advised to call Planet Ice before you set off, just in case. Phone numbers can be found on their website.
If you want to take some rest from all the action and adventure, you can take your family out to Mottistone Manor Garden in Brighstone The Manor Garden is a wonderful sculpted landscape of flowers and shrubs. The site is maintained by the National Trust, so if you are already a member you will get in for free.
There are four other National Trust attractions on the Isle of Wight, including the Old and New Batteries at the Needles. Going on holiday to the Isle of Wight is incomplete without a visit to at least some of them!
So as you can see there is plenty to see and do. So much so in fact that often one visit to the Isle of Wight is not enough. Prepare to come back for more!
