How to Clean a Mini DV Video Cassette Recorder
- 1). Purchase a Mini DV head cleaning tape. They are sold at major retail and electronic stores such as Walmart and Best Buy. They can also be found on websites such as Amazon and eBay.
- 2). Charge the camcorder battery or plug in the AC adapter. Power up your mini DV camcorder/recorder. Set the controls to the "VCR" function and press "Eject."
- 3). Place the Mini DV cleaning tape inside the camcorder/recorder tape compartment and gently close the compartment door. Put the camcorder/recorder control function in the "VCR" mode. Press "Play" for 10 seconds. Press "Eject" and take the cleaning tape out. Place a mini DV tape in the camcorder and play it. If the problem persists, repeat. The heads will eventually become clean.
