How to Hook-Up a VCR Player-Recorder
- 1). Decide on the type of cable connection you want to use.
- 2). Plug in a coaxial cable by inserting the connector over the coaxial port on the VCR and twisting the metal collar. The port looks like a threaded nipple. Most VCRs have both an input and output coaxial connection. Make sure you are connecting the cable to the output port.
- 3). Connect a composite cable by plugging the cords into the RCA "out" connectors. Composite cables have three connectors, a yellow connector for video, and red and white connectors for audio. The connectors and ports are color-coded, so plug the connectors into the matching colored ports. Some VCRs have composite outputs for more than one device, so make sure you plug the connectors into the same group of ports.
- 4). Plug in an S-Video cable by inserting the connector into the S-Video port. S-Video ports are round and about half an inch in diameter. The connector is usually colored black. Since the S-Video cable only carriers video signal, you will also need to connect red and white audio cables for sound.
- 5). Connect a component video connection by plugging the component video connectors into the matching colored ports. Component video uses red, green, and blue video connections. Like composite video cables, the ports are color-coded. Like S-Video, component video cables only carry video signal. You will need to separate red and white audio cables.
