How to Store Arkansas Black Apples

    • 1). Place your apples in a plastic bag and seal or knot the bag.

    • 2). Pierce the bag with a safety pin or small needle, in order to create small holes, which allow air circulation and prevent gas from building up inside the bag. Air circulation helps delay the ripening process.

    • 3). Put the bag of Arkansas black apples into the produce bin of your refrigerator, then seal the bin. Ensure that no onions, garlic, or otherwise pungent item, in is the refrigerator with your fruit. Choose a low produce bin, if you have options; the bottom of the refrigerator is colder than the top.

    • 4). Keep the refrigerator below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. While apples store best at 30 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit, this low temperature is impractical for other refrigerated foods.

    • 5). Remove your apples when you want to eat them, taking care to seal the bag afterwards.
