The Trump Card Of The Wildly Successful Business
There are a lot of components to creating a wildly successful business.
You have to be committed to strong business fundamentals.
You have to have a mindset for success.
You have to have a realistic (but edgy) revenue plan and a solid marketing strategy.
All of these components are important and even necessary for building a successful business.
But there is one component of the successful business that I think trumps all the others.
PASSION Let me try and put this into perspective for you.
What does it mean to have a commitment to practicing good strong business fundamentals? It means spending hours identifying your ideal client profile.
It means figuring out what your unique selling proposition (USP) is.
It means sales training, market research, demographics, psychographics, etc.
, etc.
I'm talking about weeks of work.
And this isn't even work that you are getting paid to do.
If you take the time to do the work, the future returns will be well worth the effort, but there is no immediate gratification.
Can you imagine doing all of that work on something that you aren't totally passionate about? I mean really.
If you aren't totally passionate about some aspect of your business, then the chances are good that you simply won't take the time to do those business fundamentals.
Donald Trump said, "If you don't have passion, you don't have energy.
If you don't have energy, then you have nothing.
" And he's right.
If you don't have passion, you will not have the energy to take your business to the highest levels.
Period.
So the question you want to be asking yourself right now is, "What am I passionate about?" It may not be your product or service that you are passionate about.
It may be some aspect of your service, or even the result of your service that you are passionate about.
I'll tell you a true story.
When I started my first business, I thought the thing I was passionate about was money.
So I built my business around making money.
And guess what? My business flopped horribly! So I started from scratch.
I got a business coach.
I started reading everything I could get my hands on about business, talking to successful businessmen, listening to interviews.
Then one day, I was listening to an interview with a guy named Greg Koch.
Greg is one of the masterminds behind Stone Brewers in San Diego.
He and his partner created a multi-million dollar specialty beer brewing business from scratch, with absolutely no advertising! The reason they didn't advertise is that they make specialty beers that 97% of Americans will never drink.
In other words, 97 cents on every advertising dollar would be completely wasted.
So how did they build a multi-million dollar business? Simple.
They followed their passion.
But here's the thing that he said that literally transformed my relationship to my business in one moment.
He said that when they first started out, he didn't care about money at all.
All they needed to do was to make enough money to keep their doors open while they pursued what they were passionate about.
Brewing specialty beers.
I realized in that moment, that I literally didn't care how much money I made.
And you have to really get that this was an absolute revelation to me.
I thought that money was all I cared about when it came to my business.
Suddenly I realized that I only cared about making enough money to keep my doors open and follow my own passion.
And in that moment I knew what my passion was.
The pursuit of excellence.
That's what inspires me.
I train every single day to be the best at what I do.
It wouldn't matter if I didn't make a dime for myself in my business.
I would still spend every day training to be the best business coach I can possibly be.
Now, I'm clear that this might not inspire you.
Most people would die of boredom if they studied as much as I do.
Me? I love it.
So it's not money, and truthfully it's not even business or coaching that I am passionate about.
There is just no better way that I can think of to express my true passion in the world.
I mean, take small business owners and show them how to dominate their market? I love it.
So that's what I'm passionate about.
How about you?
