Food, you can only last about 3 weeks without consumption. When provisioning, it requires time to consider what food items you must store up for the future. But stocking up on anything that just isn't both full of flavor and nourishing will probably be a waste of time. In our cruising preparation procedure we couldn't devise a way to plan for having a never-ending quantity of fresh vegetables. As you may think, you'll find limited garden room on board our trawler. So we came across the concept of sprouting seeds; this looked to be a great thought for garden-fresh vegetables.

If it's Alive, You will Thrive
You require a little food that is certainly living. Living (fresh) plant food items have enzymes which assist to digest foods. Methods to Sprout
For people with quart jars or sprouting trays, you are able to sprout.
To grow sprouts productively abide by these simple actions:
1. Place the seeds in a container having a lid which has openings in it for draining. You will have to make a few test runs to see just what number of seeds to soak. You may purchae the lids from your seed retailer. If you can't obtain plastic sprouting tops, just punch some holes in the metallic top.

6. When the spouts are mature, expose them to sun after they begin to mature. Locate them on a windowsill for a few hours to build up the chlorophyll that offers sprouts the green tint. You do not need to position them in direct sun however.
7. When they've turned green, pick and eat the sprouts. Bean sprouts are best consumed when the sprout pops away from the seed.
8. Sprouts are generally kept inside the fridge for a couple of days in a sealed container with a paper towel beneath the sprouts. Sprouts spoil after 3 to 4 days. If you can not consume all of them, freeze them for use in stir-fry meals.

Sprouts are best if consumed raw in tossed salads or lightly cooked. Growing grains, legumes and seeds literally changes the seeds into fresh produce. It is like having an interior plot when other green vegetables are not accessible.

Fresh is Best
Recently, I began considering other methods to add to our onboard fresh fare. I reviewed a good number of vegetables to find which could be container grown; in the end, we can't actually have a plot on board our trawler. I came up with an easy technique to grow some vegetables and be able to take our garden with us. A trip to Wal-Mart provided 3 trays approximately 18"x28"x9" and a little gardening soil. The containers were filled with potting soil and planted with radish and lettuce seedlings. These vegetables were selected simply because they've got shallow root systems. Both the lettuce and radishes are growing very well and we've already started to pick some for our dinners. Additionally, we have a 5-gallon pail that we can grow tomatoes or peppers in. Our garden is able to go cruising with us.
