How to Mount a TV Inside of a Wall

    • 1). Find the height of the wall by using a tape measure.

    • 2). Connect pieces of poster board or cardboard together with masking tape to the height of the wall you measured in step 1.

    • 3). Determine how high from the ground you want the television and make a mark on the poster board or cardboard with the pencil. Place a straight edge over the mark and make a line for the bottom of the frame.

    • 4). Draw a diagram for the TV mounting frame using the line you drew in step 2 as the starting point. Measure the poster board or cardboard for the width and height of the TV. Add 3 inches to each measurement and create a box shape. Cut out the box shape from the template with a pair of scissors.

    • 5). Place the template on the wall and secure it with masking tape. Draw an outline on the wall by tracing around the box cutout with the pencil.

    • 6). Locate the studs in the wall with the stud finder. Mark the locations of the studs with the pencil.

    • 7). Cut around the outline you drew on the wall in step 5 with a drywall saw or reciprocating saw. Remove the section of drywall to expose the studs. Cut the studs with the reciprocating saw so they are flush with the edges of the drywall

    • 8). Measure the width and height of the opening with the tape measure and transfer the measurement to four 2x4 boards. Cut the boards to the required length with a circular saw.

    • 9). Construct a box frame, for the hole in the wall by connecting the 2x4 pieces of lumber together. Set the boards on the floor or ground in the shape of the hole. Secure the frame together with nails using the hammer or a nail gun.

    • 10

Set the frame into the hole in the wall. Secure the frame to the existing studs with nails.

    • 11

Cover the wood frame and the studs on the inside of the wall with pieces of drywall. Secure the drywall with drywall screws using the power drill.

    • 12

Set the television inside the opening. Add trim around the outside of the opening to cover the edges of the drywall and to secure the TV inside the wall.
