How to Prevent Online Credit Payments

    • 1). Refrain from storing your credit card information online. Many websites will allow you the option to store your credit card information once you make a payment or a purchase from their site. If you select the option to store your card information, when payment time comes around again, the system will automatically charge your credit card for the fees that are due.

    • 2). Cancel your online account. There are some websites that require you to keep your credit card information on file as a method to pay for the services to which you have subscribed. With such sites, the only way to prevent payments is to entirely cancel the account that you have with the site.

Note that some sites may require an advance notice to prevent charges on the next billing cycle. Other sites may charge you a cancellation fee. This will all vary by site.

    • 3). Telephone the customer service or sales department for the website from which you would like to make a purchase. By doing so, you can make your purchase over the telephone instead of making a payment online.

Most websites will list their customer service telephone number in the "Contact Us" section.

    • 4). Contact your credit card company. Ask if they provide a security measure that will block Internet transactions. Depending upon the company, they may or may not offer this security feature.
