Hold Luggage Restrictions

    Weight Restrictions

    • Airlines weigh luggage to ensure it doesn't weigh more than 50 pounds. Most United States airlines only allow two bags per person and charge a fee for baggage exceeding the 50-pound limit. Sometimes, first-class passengers are permitted heavier bags.

    Firearms Restrictions

    • Although most airlines permit firearms, gun powder, matches and explosives are not permitted on planes. Airlines must be notified in advance of firearms in baggage and the weapons must be packed and locked securely. The Transportion Security Administration (TSA) will identify and track the cases carefully.

    Other Flammable Cargo

    • Passengers may not transport flammable liquids in hold suitcases. However, a common exception is aerosol toiletry spray.
