Pet Health Insurance Company Interview - Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
Pet Insurance Interviews > Healthy Paws Pet Insurance
This interview is part of a continuing series of pet health insurance company interviews. I will be using the same ten questions for each of the veterinary health insurers so that viewers can learn about each company and compare what plans are available.
In this interview, Oona Rokyta, PR & Marketing Director for Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation, answers ten questions about pet care plans available through Healthy Paws.
Question 1: How long has your company been in business, and where are you based?
Answer 1: Healthy Paws Pet Insurance has been available to pets and their parents since early 2010.
Healthy Paws is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The company is based in Bellevue, Washington and all policies are underwritten by Aon Corporation, an A rated insurance company.
Question 2: Are clients able to go to any veterinarian, or only through your insurance providers?
Answer 2: Clients of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance are able to visit any licensed veterinarian in the USA, including specialists and those at emergency hospitals.
Question 3: Are hereditary and breed-related conditions covered?
Answer 3: All diagnostics, treatments, and medications associated with hereditary and congenital conditions are covered by Healthy Paws. It is important to find a pet insurance company that covers these conditions as they may not appear for years. But when they do, the associated diagnostics and treatments can be very expensive.
Of course, if a hereditary or congenital condition is noted before the pet's enrollment, it is considered pre-existing and not covered.
Question 4: Are age-related (senior) checkups, illnesses, and medications covered?
Answer 4: Our coverage is the same for all pets regardless of age, as long as a pet is enrolled before the age of 14. Pet parents should know, though, that with older pets there are often pre-existing conditions or symptoms noted in their medical records. To ensure complete transparency, we encourage our clients to ask their veterinarian to send along their pet's medical records, so we can review them and confirm any pre-existing conditions within our 30-day money back guarantee period.
Question 5: Does your company offer wellness plans?
Answer 5: The Healthy Paws Pet Insurance plan does not cover the veterinary exam fee or routine veterinary care, such as vaccinations, teeth cleaning, and spay or neuter procedures. The Healthy Paws pet health plan is designed to protect the pet parent from costly veterinary bills associated with unexpected accidents and illnesses.
Question 6: What types or levels of health insurance medical plans are offered?
Answer 6: Healthy Paws Pet Insurance offers one plan covering everything that matters including injuries, illnesses, genetic conditions, and emergency care. With no annual or per incident limits, we're ready to cover anything unexpected that happens. And our plan is customizable, with a choice of reimbursement level and an annual deductible, so our clients can create a plan that's right for their budget and needs.
Question 7: If a wellness plan is available, can it be added to, or incorporated with, the medical health plan?
Answer 7: No, wellness plans are not incorporated in our pet insurance plans.
Question 8: Is there an annual or lifetime benefit cap?
Answer 8: Healthy Paws is one of the only companies that offers unlimited lifetime benefits with no annual or per incident caps on claims.
Question 9: How are "usual and customary" fees determined?
Answer 9: Healthy Paws Pet Insurance coverage is not based upon "usual and customary" fees or schedules. Our coverage reimburses our clients 90%, 80% or 70% of the actual vet bills submitted. The percentage is entirely dependent on the reimbursement level a client selects.
Question 10: What specific things stand out about your company?
Answer 10: First and foremost, we're pet-lovers. For us, Healthy Paws Pet Insurance isn't just a business. It's a commitment to the cause that's closest to our hearts. Our passion to ensure a better life for all pets drives us to offer the best product, hire the best employees, and offer an extraordinary caliber of service that only passion and proven experience can provide.
Our one plan covers everything that matters including injuries, illnesses, genetic conditions, and emergency care, and our clients pay as little as 10% of their vet bills. It's easy to keep our promise to protect our clients and their pets when we've designed a plan that is this easy to understand.
Finally, helping our clients care for their pets is just part of our story. Because of our passion for animals, we help animal rescue groups and shelters grow, thrive, and find new homes for thousands of homeless pets across the country. So whenever someone insures their pet with us, they're not just protecting their own pet, they're also helping a whole lot of homeless pets!
