- Upflush toilets are generally needed when adding a bathroom in a basement. Because a home's drain pipes are usually located above the basement floor, a regular toilet that counts on gravity to pull water and waste down the drain won't pull it off in this location.
- Upflush toilets employ a macerating system to liquefy human waste and toilet paper, mixing it with flushing water. The unit's built-in electric pump then discharges the water and waste, flushing it up into the home's plumbing drain system.
- You must be mindful of what you dispose of in an upflush unit, as certain items may cause blockage. These items include rags and tampons, among other tough materials.
