Tom Cruise Joins Bryan Singer for a WWII Movie
Mar 22, 2007 - Tom Cruise will star in a WWII movie to be directed by Bryan Singer (Superman Returns). The still untitled film* is based on true events about a scheme to assassinate Hitler hatched by German generals.
Singer's involvement in the WWII drama means that the sequel to Superman Returns will not be his next project. Singer still hopes to do the superhero sequel after completing his WWII project.
Cruise will next be seen in Lions for Lambs, the first film out of the reinvigorated United Artists studio. The Singer/WWII pic would be the studio's second feature film. In an interview with Variety, Cruise's UA partner Paula Wagner was quoted as saying, "After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film we had to make. As an added bonus, because of Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor."
Chris McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander wrote the script for the World War II thriller. Production is expected to begin sometime this summer.
