How to Test an Electro-Voice Microphone 6498
- 1). Set up both microphones on stands right next to each other, pointed directly at a vocalist.
- 2). Connect a microphone cable to each microphone and connect the other ends to two separate channels on the mixer. Note which microphone is connected to which channel and turn down the volume of both channels. Place yourself far enough away from a vocalist so that you can only hear her through the microphones.
- 3). Connect the speakers or headphones to the mixer so that you can listen to the output.
- 4). Turn up the volume on the Electro-Voice 6498 and ask a vocalist to speak or sing into it. Listen for the characteristics of the microphone such as bass, treble, brightness and harshness. Write down your impressions of the microphone.
- 5). Turn down the volume on the Electro-Voice 6498 and turn up the volume on the second microphone. Have a vocalist speak or sing the same material while you listen closely for the same characteristics, comparing the sound of the two microphones. Write down your impressions.
- 6). Test the microphones in different types of rooms with the vocalist at varying distances from the microphone.
