Animal Birthday Cake Ideas
- Monkey Cake
This cake gives the illusion of a monkey sitting on top of a pile of bananas. A cake baked in a dome-shaped pan serves as the pile of bananas. Ice the dome cake in yellow icing. Shape the bananas out of yellow fondant. Candy shaped like bananas also can be used. Allow the fondant bananas to set for a few days, so they retain their shape. Place the bananas randomly on the iced dome cake. Paint brown accents on the bananas with food coloring. Shape a monkey out of fondant, or purchase a small monkey toy for the top of the cake. - Farm animal cakes
These farm animal cakes are simple to decorate with basic cake-decorating skills. The body of each animal is made from a nine-inch round cake. The face of the farm animals is a cake baked in a three-dimensional ball pan. The ears, legs and the snout of the pig are made from cupcakes. The cakes either can be iced smooth or iced with a star tip. Use icing or candies for the eyes and nose accents. You can create a green grass background by dying coconut with green food coloring. These cakes can be adapted to resemble other animals based on the theme of the party. - A three-dimensional ladybug cake can be served alone or placed on top of a sheet cake for more servings. Use a cake baked in half of a three-dimensional ball pan for the body of the ladybug. A cupcake serves as the head of the ladybug. Turn the cupcake upside down, and carve the edges to make it rounded. Place the cupcake next to the body. Ice both sections with red frosting. Use circles cut out of black fondant, or create circles out of black frosting for the dots on the ladybug. Add a face with icing.
