How to Save on Home Appliances

    • 1). Purchase all of your appliances together, at the same time, from the same store. Oftentimes, stores that sell appliances such as Best Buy or Home Depot will have discounts on bundles. For example, if you buy a washing machine on one day and a dryer on the second day, the price you pay will be larger than if you'd have bought both appliances together at the same time at the same store.

    • 2). Look for the appliance with the highest energy efficiency. The energy efficiency of an appliance is rated in two ways. One will be in the form of a percentage, and the higher the percentage, the more efficient the appliance is. The more efficient it is, the less money you will spend over time. The second is to look for the "Energy Star" logo, which means that the appliance uses less energy overall to operate than appliances without this logo.

    • 3). Watch for weekly sales. Stores such as Sears, Best Buy, Home Depot and others that sell appliances all have sales on a weekly basis. Look inside the Sunday edition of your local newspaper for advertisements. If the dishwasher you want isn't on sale this week, it may be worth waiting a week or two to see if it eventually goes on sale at one of the brick and mortar stores in your area.
