How Do Celbrities Get Out of DUIs?

Before I begin, let me be clear who I mean by celebrities. For purposes of this article I don't mean those teeny bopper boys and girls out there singing about love, partying all night and then driving home. They are too stupid or too "hot" to care if they get a DUI charge. The celebrities I'm talking about are those that have established reputations, that are in the know about what to do before it happens. I'm talking about those people who are smart enough to consult a DUI attorney before they are stopped and investigated for DUI.

Who are these people? I won't name any names, but you can pick some out for yourself. They are well established athletes, Congressmen, Judges, movie stars and singers, and anyone else whose reputation might be tarnished by a criminal charge and who have the money to figure out what to do before it happens. Watching what these people do can save you the pain of having to go through the process yourself. Let's see what these celebrities do.

First, they call a DUI attorney as soon as possible and find out what they should do if the worst case ever happens. And I'm not saying this because I'm a DUI attorney in Seattle [http://seattleduinews.blog.com/2009/11/20/another-celebrity-dui-arrest-this-time-its-john-kerrys-daughter/] (though I am). I'm saying it because it is that important. There are so many myths and half truths out there that it is imperative to learn exactly what you should do. If you call any respectable DUI attorney and tell them you want to talk to them about how to prevent a DUI, they'll do it. That is one more person they can demonstrate their expertise to and hopefully one more referral down the road.

Second, they don't put themselves in a position to get popped for a Seattle DUI. Think limousine, designated driver, or taxi cab. In the news every day you see these people getting into cars driven by other people. That is a good lesson to learn. That way you never have to worry about finding yourself in the high beams of a police car getting investigated for DUI.

And finally, if the inevitable happens, you shut your mouth and ask for a DUI lawyer to help you out as soon as possible. These people understand the less information you give the cops the better. That doesn't necessarily mean saying no to the Breathalyzer test at the station (you'll get to talk to your DUI attorney about that before hand, at least in Seattle), but it does mean zipping your lips at the side of the road, not taking any field sobriety tests (in Seattle) and not taking the portable breath test (in Seattle).

So, the next time you are about to go out, or if you think your reputation is so important to you that you wouldn't want to ruin it with a DUI conviction, do like the celebrities do - at least the ones that stay out of trouble.
